Dead of Winter Film Festival
Written by -

Troy Taylor & Luke Naliborski from the American Ghost Society for the first-ever Dead of Winter Film Festival -- our 9th Annual "Dead of Winter" Event in March 2008.

Each of the entries in the Festival have been selected from dozens of possible films and each is promised to leave you chilled, terrified, puzzled and, sometimes, even laughing in your seat. In this show we talk with some of the film makers featured at this event!

Heather Woodward is a psychic/medium, a psychometrist and reads tarot. She is the founder of The Real Deal, a paranormal research team in Ventura County. Some of her paranormal experiences have been chronicled in the webisode, NURSE NANCY, about an investigation at Former Camarillo State Mental Hospital. She was also featured as the lead psychic investigator in DEAD HOUSE, a paranormal documentary about a haunted house in La Conchita bound in witchcraft and murder. Heather filmed, produced and edited DEAD HOUSE.

Haunting Villisca is a feature length movie inspired by a true story. In 1912 in the quiet town of Villisca, Iowa, J.B. and Sara Moore, their four children and two young houseguests were axe murdered in their beds. Reverend L.G. Jacklin Kelly, a deranged traveling preacher and a well-known politician, F.F. Jones were implicated. Despite two trials and much public scandal, the crime was never solved. Now, nearly a century later, paranormal teams investigate the haunting of the crime scene. Against this historical backdrop, Professor David Salt travels to Villisca with a guilty secret of his own. Drawn to the fabled spot, David is driven to seek his own redemption by helping help free the spirits trapped in the small white house. Co-written by Kimberly Busbee and James Serpento, Haunting Villisca is part horror film, part ghost story and part metaphysical journey. Shot on location at the J. B. Moore Home (the actual Villisca Axe Murder House) the movie ties past and present together to create a chilling tale about the infamous unsolved mystery and the legendary haunted house where the crime took place.

The Dead of Winter Film Festival is proud to be offering two selections from Andy & Tonya Keyser at Exspiro Productions, The Other Side: Giving up the Ghost and American Ghost Watchers. The Other Side examines what drives our interest in the paranormal, and how the media and popular culture fuel this fascination. Journey through the unknown with skeptics, tour guides, historians, philosophers, authors, and paranormal investigators....You may be left questioning that which you always believed to be true. American Ghost Watchers is the hilarious and compelling tale of a group of ghost-hunters attending the third annual American Spirit Summit in Gettysburg, PA. The conference was organized by Dr. Dawn, the nation's leading hauntrepreneur. Kenny, a technology guru who has made it his mission to expose fraud, encounters a host of characters during the conference, including Jerry, a less than honest photographer, and Mystee, a self-proclaimed psychic. Doug and Scott L. of Ghostly Talk Radio obtain revealing interviews from conference attendees and are charged with the weighty responsibility of announcing the recipients of the Orbies, the paranormal community's highest honor. Watch the sparks fly as attendees vie for a trophy, the opportunity to be in the spotlight, and the almighty dollar.
